Esiste il primo amore anche nella letteratura e “Il giardino segreto” di Frances Hogdson Burnett, è il mio ❤️

Eh sì, perché questo resterà sempre il primo libro mi ha fatto sognare, che è riuscito a portarmi in un luogo diverso, e mi ha fatto desiderare di essere lì, al posto del protagonista e vivere le sue avventure.

Quando da bambina leggevo di Mary Lennox, del pettirosso, della chiave misteriosa, e della serratura nascosta oltre la coltre d’edera, avrei voluto essere al suo posto, avere anch’io un mistero da risolvere, un’avventura da vivere, un giardino segreto da curare e in cui rifugiarmi 😍

E questa bellissima edizione, inviatami dalla Wordsworth Editions - che ringrazio immensamente per questa opportunità - mi ha permesso di riscoprire questo grande capolavoro nella lingua in cui la sua stessa autrice lo ha messo su carta.

Ancora una volta è stato bellissimo conoscere la capricciosa Mary Lennox che, piano piano, si riscopre ad amare la vita grazie al profumo della brughiera, ad un uccellino e ad una piccola chiave misteriosa 🔑

La vita all'aria aperta è vista come un vero e proprio toccasana per il corpo e l'animo della protagonista, la spinge, e in qualche modo la costringe, a migliorarsi.

È appassionante leggere di questo cambiamento nell'animo di Mary, che va di pari passo con quello della natura che si trasforma durante la primavera.

La scrittrice è davvero abile a descriverne, i profumi, i colori, i mutamenti.

Non è possibile leggere questo libro senza essere colti dalla voglia di correre per la brughiera, di sentirne i suoni e gli odori.

Come è impossibile non aver voglia di divorare un tazzone di buon porridge, o ingurgitare una bella patata arrostita, fumante.

Anche in Mary vi è la primavera, e ne leggiamo il tiepido mutare, di giorno in giorno, pagina dopo pagina ❤️

L'abilità della scrittrice sta nel renderci partecipi e complici di quei mutamenti, e dei segreti custoditi all'interno del giardino, nel trasportarci nel clima della campagna Yorkese tanto da non voler mai chiudere il libro.

Se non lo avete letto, non aspettare oltre, perché, ve lo giuro “Il giardino segreto” farà innamorare perdutamente anche voi.

Plot:

Mary Lennox was horrid. Selfish and spoilt, she was sent to stay with her hunchback uncle in Yorkshire. She hated it.

But when she finds the way into a secret garden and begins to tend to it, a change comes over her and her life. She meets and befriends a local boy, the talented Dickon, and comes across her sickly cousin Colin who had been kept hidden from her. Between them, the three children work astonishing magic in themselves and those around them.

There is first love even in literature and "The Secret Garden" of Frances Hogdson Burnett, is mine ❤️

Yes, because this will always remain the first book that made me dream, that it managed to take me to a different place, and made me want to be there, instead of the protagonist and live her adventures.

When, as a child, I read about Mary Lennox, the robin, the mysterious key, and the lock hidden beyond the blanket of ivy, I wanted to be in her place, to have a mystery to solve too, an adventure to live, a secret garden to take care of and in which to take refuge 😍

And this beautiful edition, sent to me by Wordsworth Editions - which I thank immensely for this opportunity - allowed me to rediscover this great masterpiece in the language in which its author herself put it on paper.

Once again it was wonderful to meet the capricious Mary Lennox who, little by little, rediscovers herself to love life thanks to the scent of the moor, a bird and a small mysterious key 🔑

Life in the open air is seen as a real panacea for the body and soul of the protagonist, it pushes her and somehow forces to improve herself.

It is exciting to read about this change in Mary's soul, which goes hand in hand with that of nature which transforms itself during spring.

The writer is really able to describe the scents, colors, changes.

It is not possible to read this book without being overwhelmed by the desire to run across the moor, to hear its sounds and smells.

Just as it is impossible not to want to devour a cup of good porridge, or gulp down a nice steaming roasted potato.

Also in Mary there is spring, and we read its tepid change, day by day, page after page ❤️

The writer's ability lies in making us participants and accomplices of those changes, and of the secrets kept within the garden, in transporting us to the climate of the Yorkese countryside so much that we never want to close the book.

If you haven't read it, don't wait any longer, because, I swear to you, “The secret garden” will make you fall madly in love too.
